The holidays are here, and that only means one thing – empty wallets with no extra cash to go to shows. Luckily, the people over at Paper Garden Records understand this and are putting on a free show in New York City, December 19. The show will be held at The Living Room and will feature Peasant and Jason Bajada.
Peasant is a promising lo-fi, folk-pop act off Paper Garden Records comprised of musician Damien DeRose. The past two years have been a whirl wind for DeRose from having turned eighteen, buying a sail boat, traveling the country, signing a record deal, releasing and re-releasing a debut album, On the Ground, and touring Europe- Peasant is on the rise. His music is light and refreshing, with rich piano and Conor Oberst-like guitar. Peasant will be releasing his sophomore album, Shady Retreat, early 2010. The first single “The End” was released in August and shows his potential with sixties-style guitar and tranquillizing vocals.
Peasant will be joined in the free show with Montreal’s Jason Bajada. Bajada is a melodic folk singer who has recently released his album, Loveshit (Maple Music) which has gotten mixed reviews.
We are looking forward to seeing Peasant right before he releases the album that will really launch his career.
