the past lives

The Past Lives is a band that formed when a bunch of guys decided to quit groups that didn’t really make it and start a brand new one. Well, here’s to hoping this one works out better for them, although I’m not promising anything. Their full-length debut album Tapestry of Webs is due on February 23rd and the band has released two songs to preview.

The first up is “Deep in the Valley,” a creepy tune co-sung by the vocalist, Jordan Blilie and his twin sister. According to the press release this album, “crawls from the primordial ooze of anti-parent culture sound to stand on newly formed legs, moving forward with carefully considered steps.” The lyrics sound like something I would have written in 9th grade after reading a Sylvia Plath anthology, and the background music sounds a lot like the westerns my dad used to watch on television when I was growing up. The second song available for preview was “Hex Takes Hold,” which is a definite improvement from the first song. They sort of pull it together in the chorus.
