After undergoing recent throat surgery, legendary musician and former drummer for The Band, Levon Helm was placed on a strict vocal rest until he recovers.

Helm lost his voice earlier this summer while on tour, and doctors found a lesion on his vocal cords due to acid reflux.  The lesion was successfully removed and a biopsy revealed it was non-cancerous.

Helm and his band mates continue to perform to sold out audiences at his weekly Midnight Ramble concerts despite losing his voice.  He plans to be able to sing again after working with his vocal coach and he will perform the rest of the shows left on his tour, including the Austin City Limits Festival on October 3.

Helm will also perform on The Imus in the Morning Show on the Fox Business Network on October 9, and he and fellow musician/band member Larry Campbell recently tapped a performance for Elvis Costello’s Spectacle show that will air on the Sundance channel in January.

Helm recently relseased his second solo album Electric Dirt in June and has toured since summer.  For more tour and performance information, visit his website.
