Teenage Bad Girl and Does It Offend You, Yeah? (DJ Set) @ Webster Hall, New York – August 21, 2009

patreaIf flashing lights and hard-hitting techno beats are not your cup of tea then it is a good thing you missed Teenage Bad Girl and Does It Offend You, Yeah? at Webster Hall. For everyone else, this was a night full of non-stop electro/dance music from two different bands. At moments I wondered if some danced to the beat in their own heads or the sounds of Teenage Bad Girl and Does It Offend You, Yeah?, which both have been compared to the likes of Daft Punk.

Does It Offend You, Yeah? has been making a name for themselves since this quartet from Reading, England got together. In March of 2008 they were named Rolling Stone’s “Breaking Artist” and ninth most listened to new band on last.fm. But all that aside, that this UK band is hard to pigeonhole into one genre and throughout their performance the classic video game and synth heavy sounds had people moving, even those in seats .

They played two crowd pleasers, Daft Punk’s “One More Time,” and D4L’s booty shaking hit, “Shake Dat Laffy Taffy.” While some jumped and moved in rapidly spontaneous jerk movements others grinded their way all over the dance floor with a partner. But these unplanned movements were necessary for Does It Offend You’s infectious electronics.

The floor vibrated so much that the candles placed on each square black table popped like the music. Amid the crowd was a huge disco ball but when Teenage Bad Girl hit the stage all eyes were on them. After meeting in school, the French duo Guillaume Manbell and Greg Kazubski became part of the new French electro scene along with others.

Both Teenage Bad Girl and Does It Offend You, Yeah? are working on their second albums but Teenage Bad Girl definitely got the crowd pumping to the point where one excited fan jumped so hard he broke the table he was on. Luckily, he wasn’t injured and got up and found another table to dance upon.

The crowd kept cheering and Teenage Bad Girl took them into what seemed to be an endless night of electro music. These club goers didn’t leave until last call. They eagerly wanted more. Repeated line, “I look into your eyes, I see the future,” from Teenage Bad Girl stood out throughout their performance and made it obvious that these guys aren’t going anywhere.
