massiveattackThere’s an ambush just around the corner that’s neither quiet, nor minuscule—it’s Massive Attack. The genre-bending duo of 3D and Daddy G is making a return to the scene after a 6 year absence following 2004’s Danny the Dog: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, with the Splitting the Atom EP featuring 4 tracks that are set to appear on the full-length album, Heligoland, due later in 2010.

The Splitting the Atom EP, which is currently available on the band’s website and itunes includes the cut “Pray for Rain,” featuring TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe as well as another twilight-hour slice of trip-hop “Psyche,” featuring Tricky collaborator Martina Topley-Bird. The EP’s title-track shoots some up-tempo claps and kicks groovy enough to turn all the wallflowers to the dance floor, and all amps up to 11.

The upcoming LP will feature many familiar collaborators like the Reggae veteran Horace Andy, as well as Damon Albarn (Blur, the Gorillaz), and Guy Garvey (Elbow) to grace tracks with vocals in addition to others.

And just when the ethereal Splitting the Atom EP has caught on in your headphones, feel free to turn off all the lights and check out the Goldsworthy remix for “Pray for Rain,” posted on the band’s website.
